“Every child that has a facial deformity is our responsibility. If we don’t take care of that child, there’s no guarantee that anyone else will.”

When my wife and I founded Operation Smile in 1982, we never imagined it would grow to be the worldwide charity that it is today. Along the way, we've had the opportunity to meet some of the most generous hearts in the world, and worked side by side with them to change the lives of more than 300,000 people with free cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries.
Together, our local and international volunteers have treated more than 30,000 patients across China. We owe a great deal of this success to the strong leadership of Professor Alice Chiu who has been an avid supporter of Operation Smile and the children of China since the very beginning. We will all stand side by side to provide safe, effective surgical care to those who need it the most. Our teams will provide surgery to tens of thousands of those awaiting our care, and we will work together to help train the next generation of nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists and pediatricians. We hope you'll continue to stand with us for many years to come.
I have brought Operation Smile into China since 1991 in the hope of helping underprivileged children with cleft conditions.

I believe that every child, regardless of their background, deserves to be cherished and equally treated; ensuring all children having timely access to appropriate treatments is the utmost motivation behind her worldwide efforts in organizing volunteer medical consultations.

From the day I became a parent I always thought that if we could give the gift of a smile to a child born without basic communication abilities or eating capabilities then that would be the best gift we could give.
